The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Frustration About Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for female and kids' apparel without notifying all users about the change.
Online Platforms Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with similar services.
They have suggested members to review their products and manually change the size where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Earlier, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Accounts
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
