Much like the recent storm swept through the north-west the prior day, Manchester City blew Manchester United away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing 3-0 win for their manager's side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their leadership claims as they reinforced their position at the top of the table.

Consecutive Defeats for Manchester United

This result represented successive WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since May 2024, putting them seven points off the league leaders with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

United’s ability to juggle domestic and continental soccer with a limited roster has been a widely debated topic since they earned a place in the European competition. Considering the fixture list, it always seemed this was the period that would truly test this fortitude. Sadly for the visitors, they looked tired all game, the historic win against the French side clearly having taken a toll.

Team Changes

Marc Skinner had tried to make changes with a handful of adjustments. Toone, Terland, Janssen and Galton all brought freshness, although the dropping of the in-form Melvine Malard to the sidelines caused surprise.
